Reflection and Analysis Academic Preparation Throughout my first two years at Wilfrid Laurier University, a few courses have aided my time at Chan Co. Primarily in BU127, BU247, and BU283. These courses are Introduction to Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Financial Management I respectively. Introduction to Financial Accounting has taught me the basic accounting principles and concepts as a student who did not take any accounting in high school. This was my first time being exposed to accounting, which is very different from mathematics. I learned what financial statements were, balance sheets, and cash flows. I practiced bank reconciliationââ¬â¢s, learning what accruals were and several key principles. Managerial Accounting was used whenever I did reasonability tests. I would calculate their margins and see if they were similar to prior years based on their sales to materials purchased ratios. It was similar to performing which construction method was most efficient. I also used the investment knowledge I learned from Financial Management in bookkeeping and analyzing a companyââ¬â¢s investment schedule. There were some companies that liked to sell or short put/hold options. These concepts were taught in Financial Management. We were also heavily focused on using Microsoft Excel for this course and using Lotus spreadsheet software was highly transferable. Although not many complex functions were used, just being able to create a well-presented working paper was helpful. Knowing how to transpose or create proper copy and paste functions to ensure accuracy was key, which I learned the hard way with many incorrect functions pasted. The course also helped with reading the bank statements on GIC investments or car lease rates. Apocolyptic, A In Depth Look At The Gospel Of Mark Essay Mark is most likely the first of the Gospels to be written because it is the shortest and tells of the ministry of Jesus. Mark stresses Jesus message about the kingdom of God and how it is breaking into human life as good news and that Jesus himself is portrayed as the gospel of God. Jesus is explained as the Son of God who is sent down to rescue everyone. His life is predestined as a sacrifice for humanity. The beginning of the book sets the tone of Mark by the actions of John the Baptist and God as he speaks during Jesus baptism declaring Jesus his son. Also in the beginning Jesus is supposed to baptize the Holy Spirit and that the temptation of Satan fails. Examining the verse 14-15 of chapter 1 one can understand Jesus proclamation as Gospel: fulfillment, the nearness of the kingdom and therefore the need for faith. From this point on we see miracles being performed on the people. It almost seems as though he is carrying out these miracles in order to make people either fear him, or prove to people who he is. People then start to take a real liking to him as he helps them unconditionally with all of their ailments. Jesus later appoints 12 disciples to carry out his reign and to drive out the demons as he is doing. Though we see in chapter three the introduction of the Apocalyptic thought. Jesus is accused of being Beelzebul which is a word used for Satan, they say this because they do not have an explanation for him driving out the demons. We also see in this chapter that Jesus says that his family is those that believe in God and follow his reign. This insinuates the idea that Jesus is in all of us. Continuing the story we see Jesus is preparing for everything that is to happen. He is aware of the disciples that are going to betray him, and that he is going to be sentenced to death by Pilate. Then the Last Supper where he is to foretells the future. In chapter 13 we are told about the destruction of the Temple. This is very apocalyptic in tone because it t ells of the falling of all the great buildings right down to the last stone. He says that there will be many wars, and many nations will fight but it will all be built again, saying that intervention will only happen after destruction. What he is talking about is the Romans coming to take over Jerusalem and to destroy the temple. Though Jesus does not say when this is going to happen. The book of Mark ends with Jesus being crucified and dying on the cross for everyone. He was buried and then the following day as Mary Magdedalene, Mary Mother of James and Salomon went to go anoint his body they found that his body was not there. They assumed that Jesus had risen. He appeared to the eleven and said go out and proclaim what has happened and those that believe will be saved and those that dont will be condemned. This is the final portion of Mark and its proclaims that those who do not believe will be punished. This is a very similar attitude that was seen in Daniel as God the punisher. Religion Essays

The Atomic Bomb The Atomic Bomb Albert Einstein predicted that mass could be converted into energy. This was the basis for the atomic bomb. Throughout this research paper, I will trace the history of the atomic bomb. In addition, who was involved and why, what happened in this event, and explain the impact that it had on the world. After Einstein predicted, that mass could be converted into energy. This was confirmed experimentally by John D. Cockcroft and Ernest Walton. Physicists from 1939 onward conducted much research to find answers to questions as how many neutrons were emitted in each fission and which elements would not capture the neutrons but would moderate or reduce the velocity (Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia The Atomic Bomb Mar.99 CD-ROM NP) and other questions of that nature. Frightened by the possibility that the Germans may produce an atomic bomb, physicists Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, and Edward Teller consulted Einstein to address a letter to Franklin Roosevelt. Motivated by the letter, in 1939 Roosevelt commanded an American effort to obtain atomic weaponry before the Germans. With an increasing threat from Germany, President Roosevelt needed to take an aggressive stance. He was in a position of nuclear threat. F.D.R needed to do something, and do something very fast. This is why the president called to order the Manhattan Project. Nothing happened until Vannevar Bush, coordinator of scientific activities for the war, took charge. The program was called the Manhattan Project. It came under United States Army control in 1942. The Manhattan Project is a code name for the United States efforts to complete the separation of uranium-235 out of the uranium238. The development of these compounds resulted in the impact of nuclear energy in the 20th century. President Roosevelt would later spend 2 billion dollars on this project. His goal was to ensure the safety of his nation and be a leader in the use of nuclear energy. The men who coordinated the Manhattan Project were an important part of this endeavor. The President gave the orders to United States Army Major General Leslie Groves to find different scholars to also make a nuclear bomb. In doing this, Major General Groves selected some of the best scholars in the field of physics and mathematics. They are as follows: J. Robert Oppenheimer, Richard Feyman, Enrico Fermi, Joseph C. Carter, And Neils Bohr. J. Robert Oppenheimer was born on April 22, 1904. He thrived on studying and was not a very social type of person. He went to Harvard and completed a four-year chemistry degree in only three years. Robert also studied subatomic physics at Cambridge. At Cambridge, he suffered a mental breakdown. At Gotigen, a German University he got his Ph.D. He then established a goal to bring new physics back to the United States. On November 1,1940 Major General Leslie asked Oppenheimer to lead, the Manhattan Project. Robert willingly took the job. This was the beginning of a project that would change the future to come. Richard Feyman was born on May 11, 1918 in Queens, New York. He mastered differential and integral calculus at age 15. He was accepted into MIT in 1936 when he was 18 years old. He graduated, and went to Princeton as a graduate. He asked Groves if he could join the theoretical division in Los Alamos and was accepted. He met a man by the name of Hans Bethe. He was somewhat like a mentor to Richard. They both worked on solving how much fissionable material it would take for the bomb to explode. Feyman won a Nobel Peace Prize for inventing the Feyman diagrams in 1965. He then died in 1988 after fighting cancer for many years. Enrico Fermi, was born on September 29,1901 in Rome Italy. He was forced to a career in the sciences by the death of his brother, a scientist He got his Ph.D. at the University of Pisa, in Italy, in 1922. Enrico split a uranium atom at University of Michigan at a lecture. He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his work. Fermi was the first to create a sustained nuclear fission chain reaction. He did this at the University of Chicago on December 2, 1942. This was critical to the making
